MORATORIUM ON WATER BILL PASSES

December 10th, 2007

On Friday, the Maui County Council passed a bill that requires:

The ordinance says that an applicant for a land-use approval must identify a long-term supply of water that must be supported with substantial evidence, including a water quality assessment verified by the county water director. A subdivision is defined as lands divided into two or more lots intended for sale and construction.

Between the 50% affordable housing requirement and now this, we are going to see sharply diminished development on Maui over the next several years. That is probably good news for existing property owners over the near term.
